September Priority Update -
Alert message sent 28/09/2021 12:45:00
Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police
Welcome to our September priority update.
Busy month as always on the Town South Beat with plenty of good work being done by PC Matt Houghton and PCSO Ciaron FULLER. We will soon be joined by a new member of staff on our team, with PCSO Mo Quinn joining the team in early October. Mo has been tutored on another beat in Melton and will be joining the Town South Beat, I’m sure she will quickly find her feet within the community.
Our 3 current beat priorities are: Road Safety Concerns: Including speeding, ASB and parking in and around schools at drop off and pick up times Anti-Social Behaviour Drug Dealing/Taking
These beat priorities are dictated by YOU. We need to know what is going on within your community so we can help and look at ways of combatting these issues. These priorities are the 3 main areas bought to our attention, however that does not mean that we do not look at wider issues.
If you have any other suggestions or concerns regarding any of our local priorities feel free to get in touch with us by reporting your issue on 101 or online, speaking to officers whilst walking around the beat or through our direct messages on our Facebook page.
Anti-Social Behaviour continues to be one of our main focal points around the Melton Town South. Anti-Social Behaviour effects lives. It is behaviour by a person which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to persons not at the same household as the person. Types of anti-social behaviour could be shouting, swearing, loud music, driving inconsiderably, animal nuisance, vandalism and many more. If you are subject to ASB please report this, details on how to do this are below.
Your beat team are conducting regular foot and marked car patrols around our hotspot locations that have been highlighted by previous incidents, face to face interactions and brought up on Neighbourhood Link.
The ASB reports which have been received over the past month have been varied, with reports of littering, damage and nuisance behaviour among others. Officers have looked to resolve these issues quickly and efficiently and will continue to problem solve these issues, with partner agencies. A reminder which I’m sure you all don’t need, however October marks the month in which Halloween occurs. As always this will unfortunately and undoubtedly see a rise in ASB around the 31st and leading into November with bonfire night. As always we encourage people to be as involved as they want with Halloween and the easiest way to say you don’t wish to partake is by coming by to the police station and picking yourself up a poster which politely reminds people that you do not wish to partake. These posters are available to everyone and anyone, all you need to do is pop into the station during opening hours and ask for one.
We have received a few reports of noise from neighbours and late night parties, unfortunately we are unable to investigate these reports but please report to your local council. http://www.melton.gov.uk/
We fully appreciate the negative impact that ASB happens and how it can affect people mentally and physically, so please do not hesitate to report ASB to Police online via https://www.leics.police.uk/ , or by calling the Police on 101, (always 999 in an emergency) or contacting https://crimestoppers-uk.org/
Drug Dealing and Drug Taking remains a pertinent issue that we focus our attention on, therefore continues to be another one of our local priorities. Marked vehicle and foot patrols have been conducted along our designated hotspots as a form of deterrent.
We are always grateful for your help and involvement on bringing offenders to justice, therefore we are urging anyone to report any information known about the supply of drugs to us by calling 101, or via our Facebook or Twitter accounts. You can also report information to us completely anonymously via Crime Stoppers online, or over the phone, their website is www.crimestoppers-uk.org/ and their phone number is 0800 555 111.
Road Safety is another pressing issue and local priority on the Melton Town South Beat. Speed calming measures in the form of parking up in a Police car have also been conducted along Dalby Road and Leicester Road coming into Melton. Officers found this a very effective way in managing the speed of vehicles coming into the town and also act as a deterrent for further speeding into and out of Melton.
One of the rising trends which has been noticed over the past month is the increase in the use of e-scooters on the Town South Beat. A reminder that currently it is illegal to ride an e-scooter anywhere other than on private land with the owner’s permission. Law dictates that an e-scooter is a motor vehicle and therefore would require road tax, insurance and a driving license to be able to ride on a public highway. It is however impossible to gain tax and insurance for these e-scooters. As a whole I understand that these e-scooters are expensive and if seized by the police they would not be retrievable at this stage. This is due to having the ‘motor vehicle’ road legal when released back to the owner and as stated it is not possible to get a e-scooter road legal as of yet. Discretion will be used by officers when dealing with e-scooter incidents, due to the costs and the implications words of advice will be offered to most first time offenders, who may not be aware of the law around them. However for persistent users or those using e-scooters in criminal or anti-social manners then a more robust approach will be taken.
If you feel speeding is a problem in your area please click on the below link which will give you some informative information regarding traffic concerns https://www.speedorsafety.com/
Crime: Of note there was only one crime which you need to be aware about, a burglary was reported to have happened on Ankle Hill. Obviously as the nights are now drawing in and there days becoming darker we as a community need to become more vigilant. Remember to always lock doors and windows when out of your house and to review your security features on a regular basis. If you have any queries or questions around home security then contact us via one of the many options available and an officer will be more than happy to review your security and make suggestions on how it could potentially be improved.
