Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Hello. Thank you for being part of Burbage Neighbourhood Link https://www.neighbourhoodlink.co.uk/  .

Busy week but I selected a few bits to make you aware of. Crime figures still good for the village so please continue to be vigilant.

    Community Speed Watch Event

I and a Police volunteer spent several hours in -2 conditions completing our speed gun activity at some of the locations raised as concerns by local residents. We complete this activity at as many locations as possible throughout the month.

Areas visited on this event were Lutterworth Road, Sapcote Road, Brockhurst Avenue and Sketchley Road.

The work we do as community speed watch is to try and raise awareness around speeding and help change mind sets. https://www.communityspeedwatch.org/FRONT-v2-Home.php?mr=0

It was disappointing to find that the majority of people monitored speeding were outside of Sketchley Primary School during school leaving time. I have attached a poster showing the impact that just a few miles an hour over the speed limit can have. Please take a look.

Statistics say if you hit someone at 20 mph there is a 1 in 40 chance of them being killed. If you hit them at 30 mph there is a 1 in 5 chance of them being killed. Hit them at 40 mph there is a 9 in ten chance they will die. Please feel free to use/share the poster.

Whilst at the location several drivers also swiftly left the positions they had taken parked on junctions. We are passionate to change mentalities around driving/parking/driving on footpaths particularly around schools but this requires the will of parents and residents to make a change. It cannot be a case of “as long as I don’t get caught”. There are safety reasons for not parking on junctions, footpaths and speeding.

We want all road users to understand the potential dangers and to take a few minutes to think “what happens if a child ran out in front of me”. We would just like people to reflect on driving habits and what a difference it could make to the local community and safety of each other, particularly with more pedestrians and cyclists about at the moment and current weather conditions.

Vehicle registration plate stolen from Hillrise between 20:00 on the 05/02 and 12:30 on the 07/02. Please try to keep your vehicle by your property and in a well-lit or secure area. Always report if you have your registration plate stolen as it may be used in crime.

4 Vehicles seized from Brookfield road using DVLA powers due to no road tax. Please take 5 minutes to check your tax, MOT and insurance to ensure it has not expired.

Scams from residents “The Sun and Royal Mail”
Please visit for advice and support Action Fraud https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

“Be very careful loads scams around at mo. Clicked on Sun newspaper online and was doing a win a caravan home and saw you could win a laptop on same page. He thought he had paid £1 thought nothing of it. Was looking through bank statements online today & found a strange one for 45.99. Luckily he rang bank & fraud squad and getting new card. The link was nothing to do with sun newspaper”.

“Your Royal Mail parcel is awaiting delivery. Please confirm the settlement of 1.99 (GBP) on the following link:
    https://uk-deliverymail.sup*********”
“yeah right I have no parcels coming that I need to pay for, so easy to click links but I did not.”

Just as a side note. When sending me your scams to inform other residents, can you not send the full link for the scams as my computer blocks the messages due to potential viruses. This may also be useful advice if you share anything on social media. Sometimes curiosity may make someone click on the link.

Crime prevention support, leaflet drops, patrols and resident engagement completed on De La Bere Crescent, Herford Way, Hillrise and Atkins Way amongst others.

We have also been completing lots of patrols all over the village, mainly on bicycle over the last few days. Very cold and windy. Be careful of driving conditions and remember not to leave your vehicle unattended in the mornings when defrosting the windows. There is always a case every year of someone having their vehicle stolen due to this, don’t let it be you.

Thank you very much for the positive ratings you give and supportive comments in response to these messages. We really appreciate it and it helps us see if what we are putting out is of interest.

    Thank you and take care.
