Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

Police Cadet Jess is walking 365 miles to raise money in memory of a friend who took his own life 365 days ago.

Jess is raising money for The Tomorrow Project, a local charity which offers one-to-one confidential support to anybody from Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland who has been affected or bereaved by suicide.

She said: “When my friend, Ewan, took his own life, it had a devastating impact on everyone who knew him. The months passed by but the grief was still there and it didn’t get any easier to cope with. I began to think more and more about the people who were closest to him and how much it must have affected them, and I decided I wanted to find a way to support them.

“It’s been one year since we lost Ewan so I am walking 365 miles to mark the 365 days that his family and friends have been without him.”

Jess hopes that her challenge will encourage others who might be struggling to reach out and talk to someone. She also hopes to raise awareness of ‘The Tomorrow Project’, to support them to continue their incredible work supporting families and individuals affected by suicide.

Jess says: “Now more than ever, we need to find ways to stay connected with each other. No one should feel alone or without the information, support and help they need. Please check in on your friends and family to ensure they are doing okay. Please don't suffer in silence.”

Anyone in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland with urgent concerns about their own or someone else’s mental health needs can call a single Freephone number for help 24/7/365. The number is 0808 800 3302. Always dial 999 in an emergency.
