Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

    Hello Citizen,

PCSO 6656 Will Berridge here! This is the Melton Town North Beat, Neighbourhood Policing Monthly Newsletter and Priorities Update email.

I would again like to thank you all for your continued co-operation during the COVID 19 pandemic and ask for your continued support because united together, we will overcome this.

    Notable updates to pass on:

A male has been charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident in Melton on Saturday 16th January. The male was remanded into custody to appear at Leicester’s Magistrates Court. We are pleased with this result and are continuing to show high visibility and reassurance at the location involved.

    Priorities updates:

Your feedback through Neighbourhood Link Surveys continues to tell us that Anti-Social Behaviour is the largest concern that you’d like us to address.

I am delighted to inform you that ASB reports have decreased over the last month and the Neighbourhood Beat Team have dealt with the offenders accordingly, offering a number of wise words and an ABC.

Regular patrols are being conducted in the appropriate hotspots to distinguish the issue of ASB.

Leicestershire Police, organised by the beat team have also donated four bikes to The Venue Youth Centre in Melton Mowbray. The bikes are those that the force has recovered and the owner has not claimed.

The bikes would have otherwise of been recycled for their scrap metal. They need a little TLC, but it’s great to see them go to a new home and they’ll make a great little lockdown project for some young people in Melton.

Anti-Social Behaviour is one of the priorities for the Town North Beat Team and working closely with the local youth centre is a big part of proactively preventing ASB.

The neighbourhood team also held a meeting with MP Alicia Kearns to discuss the issue of ASB, offering partnership working and reassurance around some key issues. We continue to monitor the hotspots and feedback any necessary information to the MP.

We fully appreciate the negative impact that ASB happens and how it can affect people mentally and physically, so please do not hesitate to report ASB to Police online via https://www.leics.police.uk/ , or by calling the Police on 101, (always 999 in an emergency).

Another of our local priorities raised by yourselves has been Drug Taking and Drug Dealing.

The local beat team have been continuously conducting regular vehicle and foot patrols around our hotspot locations and officers are continuing to stop search those individuals we believe to be causing the community the most concern, in the designated areas we have received information for.

Police have been conducting regular stop searches alongside the Special Constabulary. Officers have been proactively patrolling the dedicated areas on foot, both in uniform and in plain clothes. They have been disrupting possible illicit activity by doing these stop searches as well as enforcing the COVID 19 guidelines by issuing fines. The event was very successful with a community resolution being handed out as well as an arrest, both of these were for drug possession.

The dedicated neighbourhood team along with Melton borough council have issued multiple Section 8 Misuse Drugs Act warning to residents up on the Drummond Walk estate, issuing a notice such as this one to a vulnerable tenant allows us to offer them the correct support they need and can facilitate other agencies involvement in an effort to stop drug activity from occurring at the address.

We are always grateful for your help and involvement on bringing offenders to justice, therefore we are urging anyone to report any information known about the supply of drugs to us by calling 101, or via our Facebook or Twitter accounts. You can also report information to us completely anonymously via Crime Stoppers online, or over the phone, their website is www.crimestoppers-uk.org/ and their phone number is 0800 555 111.

Our third local priority is Road Safety.

Officers in Melton Mowbray and are continuing to understand your concerns. Officers have continued to speed monitor in marked vehicles, which acts as an excellent deterrent.

Officers have been out with the SL700 speed gun last month and have been monitoring multiple areas around Melton, most notably Thorpe Road as pointed out by our feedback from social media, Neighbourhood Link and general face to face interactions. No offences for speeding were caught when officers were out speed monitoring but did act as visible preventative measure.

We are always on the lookout for illegal vehicles, officers have seized a car upon on St John’s Drive for no insurance, tax or MOT.

We will continue to work with our Safer Roads Team to conduct speed monitoring and enforcement whenever possible. If you have any pressing suggestions don’t hesitate to leave a comment, contact us on our social media page or send us a message on Neighbourhood Link.
