Catalytic Convertor Thefts

Good evening residents,

I am writing to you this evening in order to raise your awareness of an increase seen in thefts of Catalytic Convertors (CATCONS) from vehicles.
This is not specific to our area, and is in fact a National issue. However, when I look at the East Leicester area there have been 31 reported incidents of CATCONS since the beginning of the year. Looking at the Stoneygate Beat in particular we have had four reported.

Unfortunately, there is no specific time period to look at, and they could be in any area. However, there does appear to be particular vehicles that are targetted, these being Honda and Toyota vehicles.
With that in mind can I ask that you all consider crime prevention when parking your vehicles in order that are not seen as easy targets. The vehicle will need ot be jacked up in order for the offender to get underneath and saw the CATCON from the exhaust.
Therefore, maybe park you vehicle close to others, in well lit areas, and near to windows in order to deter those that would take your property.
