Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

    Dear Residents

Yesterday morning I had the opportunity to work with a colleague and we conducted speed and HGV monitoring in the village at a few locations.

I spent 10 minutes on Canal Lane with the speed gun, during this time 9 vehicles entered the village from Langer and all were within the speed limit. This may have been down to the temporary traffic lights. By standing near to the BT building this allows me to record the speed of those just coming over the bridge. I then moved further from that location to the junction with Colston Lane and monitored traffic in both directions for 15 minutes. During this period 22 vehicles passed by in both directions all within the speed limit. By standing at the Colston Lane Junction this allowed me to record the speed of those approaching the junction with Stathern Lane.

I then spent a further 20 minutes on Colston Lane, during this period 14 vehicles passed in both directions with 2 vehicles contravening the 30mph speed limit. One recorded at 37 MPH, they were from a neighbouring village and the second vehicle recorded at 35. Both of these motorists will receive a speeding advice letter.

During all the time spent on the main road, 4 large HGV's also passed through the village. The companies will receive an advice letter asking them to comply with the weight restrictions if they had no purpose to be in Harby. Moving forward with this issue I have sought support from Neighbourhood Priority Officers to consider stopping HGV's that are seen within the weight restriction and asked if they could spend any downtime between dealing with emergency and priority responses in Harby monitoring and stopping HGV's.

In addition to the above, 6 company advice letters have recently been sent out following information received about habitual companies seen passing through the village.

    Kind Regards

    PCSO Claire Gray 6541
