This year Oakham, Melton and Uppingham Fire Stations are coming together to spread some much needed Christmas spirit.
Christmas can often be a time of isolation for many and Covid-19 will make this an even more difficult year for so many people living in our community, so we are on a mission to make sure everybody receives a gift this year! We are hoping to spread joy to all areas of our community so that nobody goes without. Our shoeboxes are for everybody! Let’s continue with the amazing community spirit we have seen so far in 2020! We would really love your help to make this success.
How you can help?
If you would like to help us bring joy to our community, simply follow our instructions for creating your own shoebox or simply donate products for us to pack multiple shoeboxes at the stations.
Step 1 – Find an empty shoebox Step 2 – Wrap it in Christmas Paper (Please wrap the box and lid separately and mark what age range the box would best suit). Step 3 – Fill it with gifts! If you’re stuck for ideas then please use our tips on the other side of this page. Step 4 - Once you’ve finished your shoebox please drop it of at one of our secure locations between 3rd and 14th December.

Shoebox ideas It would be great if you’re making your own shoebox if you could firstly write a Christmas card to include inside the box. Please only include new or unused items but please don’t include electricals. We would like shoeboxes for the following age groups: • Children • Teenagers • Young adults • Adults • Elderly
How about the following ideas?
Children- Toys - Include any small toy such as dolls or cuddly toys, toy cars, balls, small puzzles etc. Art and craft toys - Pens, pencils & sharpeners, crayons or felt pens, stamps & ink pad sets, writing pads or notebooks & paper, colouring & picture books etc. Hygiene Items - Toothbrush, comb or hairbrush, flannel. Other Items - Hat, cap, gloves or scarf, hair accessories etc.
Adults- Wash items – Shower gel, soaps, hand cream, perfume, after shave, deodorant etc. Books – Puzzle books, reading books, art books Food – Chocolate or sweets, cakes or biscuits all in original packaging and in date, sorry no homemade food. Drinks – Tea, coffee, hot drink sachets, non-alcoholic beverages only, cans or bottles of pop, milkshake etc. Clothing items – Gloves, hats, scarves, hand warmers, socks etc. Other items – Wooden brain teasers, art materials, calendars etc.
