Speed Monitoring Update

PCSOs Jake & Richard have been out speed monitoring yesterday afternoon on both the Town South and Town North Beats, in response to concerns raised by local residents through Neighbourhood Link, Social Media and Face to Face Interactions.

We were on Dalby Road for 30 minutes at School finishing time, whereby over 300 vehicles passed us by. Out of those, only 4 vehicles were speeding. Quite a low percentage, but still 4 too many in our opinion.

We were then on Asfordby Road for 30 minutes, where over 350 vehicles passed us by. Out of those, only 1 vehicle was speeding. An even lower percentage, but again still 1 too many for us.

What was good about this exercise is not only the low percentage of vehicles speeding, but also that even though we conducted this monitoring at a time of day where the traffic flow was heavy, over 650 drivers saw us in our high visibility jackets at the side of the road. So hopefully, when they next drive on these roads, maybe at a quieter time, they may think twice about their speed. Hopefully it’ll be on their mind that we were there recently and that we may be there again, around the next bend.

Please remember that the speed limit is not a target and you must drive to the road conditions at the time.
